In June 2011 Tesco announced plans for a new 10,000 sq ft store on the site of the former Pines Country Club, and would include a 63-space car park. The Swansea Bay Branch of Federation of Small Business has called on the council to carry out an independent retail assessment to address the problems in the city centre instead of giving permission for more out of town shopping areas.
