Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Burpham, Surrey

Aldi has announced it will apply to build a supermarket at the site of the Green Man pub in Burpham, Surrey. Aldi has owned the site since 2006 but has been unable to get planning permission so far.

The site had been the home to a pub since 1593, but was demolished by Aldi in 2008. 1700 people objected to an application in 2006 for a 1000 sq metre store with flats and car parking.
