Campaigning to curb supermarket power

The Co-op has applied to convert the Royal Oak in Barrow-upon-Humber's Market Place into a store.

Villagers and local traders are concerned about the impact on existing shops and the effect on the Conservation Area, which includes the Market Place and its surrounds.

There are also concerns about road safety and traffic.

In July almost 50 objections have been lodged on the North Lincolnshire Council planning website and 200 residents have so far signed a petition.

The Parish Council agreed that they would request that the application went to the full North Lincolnshire Council committee for consideration.
